Our Story

We’ve come a long way….But we’re NOT done YET!

29 years ago a women was denied access to capital and had to have a male co-signer for a business loan

Kentucky, October 4, 2017 – As the NAWBO Statewide Chapter celebrates 25 years, the momentum of support in the community and partnerships formed simply put; Women Empowerment!

The NAWBO story never gets old says Jesika Young, President, NAWBO Kentucky.

“The organization was formed out of necessity for equal rights for women to gain access to capital, the advocacy of personal and professional development.  But you know, the story of NAWBO never gets old because each audience always has a different reaction. It’s true, we just don’t know what we don’t know but the NAWBO women aren’t using that excuse anymore! For anyone reading the story with a daughter or young lady in their life, it’s about setting a path that is no longer questioned for gender or race for that matter. This isn’t the Disney Princess lifestyle waiting on a man to rescue them. We’ve come a long way, but we’re not done yet!”

Young also stated that the statewide chapter holds an annual board retreat to strategically brainstorm ideas for innovation, motivation, and execution to women leaders and women-owned businesses. The chapter has begun to Facebook Live-Stream luncheons and events in an effort to push content to members across the state. The viewing time of engagement of likes and shares has been unbelievable. “We are so happy that we can now share more resources in our statewide communities. It’s so expensive and often difficult to organize events around the state to yield the same return of engagement. “Members are just too busy.” says Vanessa Pennoyer, Vice President of Membership and Business Development Executive for HJI Supply Chain Solutions.

NAWBO is building a village and forming partnerships with organizations like Greater Louisville Inc (GLI), The ORV-WBC, IWL, Women 4 Women, The Women’s Business Center, Women Influencing Louisville, & The N’Spire Business Network.  Along with big support from companies like Pella Windows and Doors, Chase Bank, Spalding University, Bellarmine University, Business First, Insider Louisville, Bingham Greenbaum Doll Women’s Forum, Advanced Electrical Systems, L & D Mail Masters, Abacus and many more.  It’s truly a blessing to make the progress of acknowledgement and continue the path of so many great women before us. NAWBO believes that it takes a village and we need all the woman focused organizations to join forces to make a difference. Together we dare! #JOINTHETRIBE

PNC- Rise of the Rest Vote

In June of 2016 PNC’s Regional President, Chuck Denny, was instrumental in bringing Steve Case to Louisville during his “Rise of the Rest” tour.   Case is the founder of AOL and started Rise of the Rest to highlight entrepreneurs and innovation all over the U.S.   Now we have the opportunity to bring Rise of the Rest back to Louisville.  Part of Steve Case’s criteria is for a community that is fully engaged and interested in helping fund local companies, so he chose to put the next visit up for a vote.   Let’s show him that this region is fully invested in its entrepreneurs and in growing thriving companies here.  Please VOTE NOW to ensure Louisville is the choice.

Highlights for #BringBacktheBus:

  • Voting is open now through October 12th
  • During the visit Steve Case (Founder of AOL & Revolution Capital) and team will
    • Meet with local entrepreneurs and leaders
