President's Report

How can NAWBO serve you better?

I am grateful and humbled to serve the Kentucky Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners alongside a very talented and passionate board of directors, and it brings me great joy to write this first letter to our members. This board has unique challenges and will have to lead in a very different world than we had six months ago. It is our top priority to help women business owners navigate the challenges around the COVID pandemic and the racial inequities that persist in our communities. NAWBO has always been a diverse and inclusive organization, but we know we can do better. We are committed to taking deliberate action to be inclusive, and we started with our own board of directors.

I believe that developing and empowering women leaders is the best investment we can make in humanity, and NAWBO is here to do just that. Whether it be through creating economic growth and jobs through business ownership, leading as a corporate executive, running a local nonprofit, or governing in political office, we need more women leaders to help solve these problems that we face today.

Your NAWBO Kentucky board of directors is ready to help and we are listening! As your businesses are facing these unprecedented challenges, we want to know how best to serve your needs. We are working hard to bring you the resources and opportunities that are most relevant to your business and professional growth. As we head into our strategic planning retreat this week, we welcome any feedback and suggestions on ways we can improve our programming, events, and networking opportunities. Please reach out to me directly at [email protected] with any feedback.

I look forward to meeting all of our members and would like to invite you to our next virtual meet and greet on Tuesday, August 18, from 4 to 6 pm, where we will be celebrating 100 Years of Women’s Right to Vote! Our programs committee has a fabulous evening planned, so you don’t want to miss it! This event is free and open to members and nonmembers, but you must register to attend. You can register here - We appreciate your patience during the previous month while we have been developing new programming. Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming Symposium and other virtual events!

Speaking of committees, we have some amazing women chairing our committees! If you are looking to get involved and connect with other women business owners and professionals, joining a committee is the way to do it! We are currently looking for volunteers for the following committees – Advocacy, Corporate Partner Relations, EPIC, Market Engagement, Marketing, Membership, Professional Development, Programming, and Symposium. Please contact us at [email protected] to find out how to get involved.

One of our most valuable resources is our NAWBO network, not just here in Kentucky, but across the country. Whether you’re a woman entrepreneur, intrapreneur, or professional, you belong here! Thank you for your support and being part of our network!

In service,

Sarah Waskey, President
