President's Report

As we enter into the second month of the year, it is exciting to look back and see how far we have come and review if we are on pace with our intentions of the New Year.  I am honored to report on behalf of NAWBO Kentucky, we are truly enhancing our mission and vision.  This year, we celebrate locally our 25th anniversary.  Our theme this year is celebrating the past, present, and future of our organization as well as each of our members' successes. This is visible in everything we do.

You may notice at our events that members of our membership and programming committees are serving as master connectors.  You may notice a little teal piggy bank named “BO” floating around at each of our events for our “Quarter War” to raise funds and awareness for our member philanthropies.  You may notice more communication on social media and on our website that feature each of our members and their successes.  You may notice NAWBO conversation corners at our events, discussing upcoming programs such as EPIC, GROW and Symposium.  You may notice more minglers and networking opportunities which include painting, vision boards, and spa days! You may notice a heightened sense of political communication from our advocates in D.C. You may have noticed our 23rd EPIC Awards being featured as a premier place to network and conduct business, while celebrating the successes of our amazing finalists and women across Kentuckiana.  You may notice more “FUNdraising” opportunities appear on our calendar.  You may also notice an enhanced level of engagement from our corporate partners, to provide education and resources to each of our members.

As a membership organization that is very intentional on how we conduct business, we have aligned ourselves in such a manner.  We want to hear from our members, give to our members, and ensure our members have access to the resources, people, information and organizations that can help them achieve. Your Board of Director’s goal is to ensure our members are knowledgeable on all accounts, giving our members the tools necessary to succeed personally, professionally or within their political agenda.

NAWBO Kentucky certainly has a lot to celebrate.  It is because of supporters and members like you!  However, we aren’t done yet.  There is still so much more that can be done to continue to advocate, elevate and empower our members.

The NAWBO Kentucky chapter welcomes any suggestions or volunteers to assist in continuing the enhancement of our mission:

“To help connect women to the resources, people, information, and organizations that can help them achieve their personal, business, or political goals”.

-Jesika Young, NAWBO Kentucky Chapter President

What Do I Get With NAWBO Membership?

What do I get with membership? By, Vanessa Pennoyer, Membership Director.

It seems these days information is delivered faster than the speed of light. Everyone just LOVES to be busy. As women, our plates are constantly full juggling family and work life balance. I’m not telling you anything new.  However, I would like to take this opportunity to share the direction of the NAWBO membership committee. We understand the struggle and want to complement your day rather than serve as an interruption.

The chapter recently conducted an informational survey that we plan to release in the March issue newsletter. Your voice was heard. I’m personally thrilled with the feedback and the committee is taking action now.

As a statewide chapter, we are working to continue to build a variety of opportunities for members to engage and participate within their schedules. We will offer Meet & Greets, Coffee Hours, New Member Orientations, Spa Venues, Team-Building, etc. We want events to be fun, relaxed, affordable and inviting to everyone. We never want anyone to be afraid to attend because they are new or perhaps don’t know anyone. During our most recent Meet & Greet at Wick’s Pizza, we had a few brand new members join us for the first time. It was awesome!

Our objective and vision is to provide value for your time. Sometimes we just want to take off the business hat and talk to our peers about life or challenges to women who “get it”, and have "been there done that” to provide resources to empower and help one another. We are a relationship organization and our outstanding 89% retention rate speaks volumes and is frankly unheard of in many local associations.

So “What do I get with my membership?” When you join NAWBO, our members believe in the mission of empowering women.  We do that in a number of ways and it’s our members who make that difference, all of whom are volunteers. We have passion. We have purpose. We see your potential and want to help you. So please join us on several social media outlets: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. and share with others and discover just what you get with membership. If you have an idea for a member event or would like to host something, please give me a call. We are always looking to improve your experience with diversity of locations, timing of day (morning vs. evening,) while supporting members and corporate sponsors first.

Vanessa Pennoyer, Membership Director

Wear Red Day 2017

Go Red for Women

Support Go Red For Women by participating in National Wear Red Day® on Friday, February 3, 2017 and donating to help fund research during American Heart Month.

Why Go Red? Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds.  Fortunately, we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action. That’s why this year we are asking that you wear red on National Wear Red Day® and Donate to Go Red For Woman. By doing so you help support educational programs to increase women’s awareness and critical research to discover scientific knowledge about cardiovascular health.

And don’t forget to make your heart health a priority. Schedule your Well-Woman Visit, a prevention check-up to review a woman’s overall health so her doctor can measure blood pressure, check cholesterol and look for signs of heart disease, stroke and other illnesses. Then encourage others through your social channels to do the same using the hashtags, #GoRedWearRed and #WellWomenVisit.

Interested in joining a NAWBO Masterminds group?

Did You Hit your 2016 Goals?  Let us help with 2017!!

Hitting your annual goals is both an art and science.  The science of good business planning is key, but don’t underestimate the ‘art’ of staying focused and driven!  NAWBO offers some of that “art” as a part of your membership, so be sure you use it!

Masterminds is NAWBO’s most powerful ‘secret’ to help you reach your business goals.  It is a FREE program we offer to help our members organize into small, confidential groups of like-minded women who meet regularly to offer advice, expertise, encouragement, or even a shoulder to cry on.

A new group is forming now – groups form when one or more members find the commitment in their lives to help a group form and then recruit other members to join in the fun.

We have found that a successful group is diverse in business type, but all members share a vision for helping one another through the tough times, of which we all have our share.  Sometimes the PERFECT advice comes from someone OTHER than our spouse, friends, employees or partners.
